School Children gardening at flower box

Castle School, Cambridge

Kitchen garden renovation and build, seed donation, horticultural advice and support.

Working with Castle School has been a privilege. We have been involved in the design and rebuild of an overgrown & neglected courtyard into a thriving kitchen garden. The pupils were involved from the very start; dismantling and rebuilding old raised beds, moving tonnes of mulch, sowing seeds, planting out seedlings, nurturing and caring for the plants as they grow, harvesting and providing produce for the adjacent food tech classes, even selling what they have grown to staff and parents. It has been a pleasure to see the pupils grow in confidence and to see them relax, open up and become more conversational when gardening.

The success of the Kitchen Garden project and the positive impact that it has had on the pupils involved has led to project 2 in the pipeline, the creation of a KS5 Wellbeing Garden in 2026.
